James Taylor is a singer/songwriter from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He's got some classic works such as "Carolina on my Mind," "You've Got a Friend," and "How Sweet it is to be Loved by You." Makes you want to start singing when you hear the titles.

Skipp Pearson of Columbia, South Carolina is the founder of The Skipp Pearson Foundation. The mission of the Pearson Foundation is the preservation of jazz music in South Carolina. Catch Skipp and his band each Thursday evening at the Hunter-Gatherer in downtown Columbia.

Micaela Montes


Micaela Montes is the paralegal with the Office of Immigration Services with Catholic Charities of the Midlands (SC), which is under the auspicies of the Diocese of Charleston. She is from Mexico. Prior to moving to South Carolina, she worked on the tour management team for Caifanes (now Jaguares) and Juanes.

Karina Martinez


Karina Martinez is a good friend from Columbia, South Carolina. She works with Columbia Farms, which is one of the largest employers in the Midlands of South Carolina.

Drink Small


Drink Small is known across the South as "The Blues Doctor." The guy can play any types of blues you can imagine. He's also one of the very few individuals left who perform Carolina Piedmont Blues. Be sure to check him out when he's in your town.

Molly Harts


Molly Harts is a good friend of mine from my days with the SC Arts Commission. Molly lives in Ninty Six, SC and works a great deal with cultural tourism in the rural area, in particular with African American historical sites.

Kristen Harkey


Kristen Harkey is the grants manager with the South Carolina Humanities Council. She does a great job. If you are in South Carolina, give her a call and ask about the SCHC programs, including the upcoming Smithsonian exhibition on food traditions.
